I learnt a lot about finance through that work together (thanks Vikas Wadhawan) and we usually reached a good outcome but the delays in interaction to coordinate each team was painful at times. This often required 3 groups working together, a UI team, data team (me) and a quant. A recurring problem was delivering small fast interactive data visualizations. I've always enjoyed working with quants as they were highly motivated to get actionable important items delivered fast. (If you want an interesting job working on kdb at scale, I recommend you contact Ruairi Devlin) We spread the solution from only FX quants to fully cross-asset with multiple engaged teams, getting to learn from new groups of quants each step of the way. Within a bank we managed to reach same-day deployment through automation and testing.
As a team we got to build "CloudKDB" a SAAS based delivery of what quants needed for data analysis and see that grow from 50 to over 500 users.
